On Wednesday, 6th February, six ladies from the club travelled to Bath University to watch Great Britain take on Slovenia in the Federations Cup, the first time it has been held in this country for 26 years. First up on Centre Court was Katie Boulter, who won her rubber very comfortably in straight sets, 6-4 / 6-2. This was followed by the eagerly awaited Jo Konta, who stepped onto court to rapturous applause. Following a tight first set and tie-break, it was Konta who stepped up and took the first set, 7.6, and quickly got into her stride to take the second set, 6.2. The final rubber of the day, commencing at 8.30 p.m. was the doubles, with Great Britain fielding the young pairing of Harriet Dart and Katie Swan. This was a very exciting and entertaining match, with plenty of variation of shots on display. Again it was the GB pairing who came out on top with a comfortable 6-2 / 6-2 win, which put the GB team in a very strong position for the next day's play when they would be facing Greece. It was a great day out for the Goodrich ladies who were totally inspired by what they had seen and were looking forward to getting back on court themselves.
