Court Etiquette
We are all keen to enjoy our tennis, so Haddington Tennis Club have some simple ground rules to make the playing experience more enjoyable for all:
- All players are expected to show tolerance, courtesy, good manners, honesty and integrity.
- We are a friendly club, so please make all new joiners of all abilities welcome when they come to a social session for the first time.
- Please do not swear or act in a way that might intimidate your playing partner or opponent, be positive and offer encouragement.
- If a game is being played on Court 1, then always wait until there’s a break in play before opening the main entrance gate onto the courts.
- Please do not walk behind a court whilst a point is being played.
- If a ball from your court rolls onto another court, wait until the players on that court have finished their rally before you retrieve it.
- Only call the lines on your side of the net, call clearly and firmly what you see and what you honestly believe to be correct.
- If you didn’t see the ball clearly and are not certain, then call it in.
- Overall, use your best judgement, we all want to be competitive but don’t let your emotions get on top of you!
Tennis can be a frustrating game, but other players don’t want to be playing tennis with someone who is miserable so cheer up! You are more likely to play better tennis if you maintain a positive frame of mind.
