“On Sunday 5th May we hosted an Open Day which was run for us by the wonderful charity Bright Ideas for Tennis. The weather had been fairly shocking on the lead up to the day but thankfully as the day dawned the sun shone and we were extremely lucky to be blessed with an ideal day for tennis!
The two ex Davis Cup players representing Bright Ideas for Tennis were Danny Sapsford who played the ATP Tour for 12 years and reached an ATP Singles ranking of 170 and Martin Lee who was ranked No.1 in the world as a Junior and who won the Junior Doubles title at Wimbledon. Danny is co-founder of Bright Ideas for Tennis and his boundless energy and love for the game of tennis is incredibly infectious. He and Martin delivered Coaching sessions for children 5-10 yrs old; Teenagers; Social adult players and then a large group of adult team players.
I think it’s fair to say that everyone had a great time … some then took up the challenge to get their service speed measured and then we all settled back to watch an exhibition match with Danny & Martin mixing in with James and Matt.
The BBQ was in operation and we are grateful to the 3 husbands who had their arms twisted to be chefs for the day (Barry, Graeme & David); there was a super Raffle, Bottle Tombola and cake and refreshments were plentiful. A big thank you to everyone who helped put this day together, to everyone who volunteered to help on the day, to everyone who supported us by being there and those who made donations - we are very grateful. We are also very pleased to say we raised in excess of £1,200. Which will be put back into the Club mainly to support our SEN Coaching that takes place once a week with Oaktree School.”
