After Harbury’s two previous matches in the Summer Week-end Mixed league were postponed, it was a pleasure to be able to host Warwick TC on Saturday. Arriving at the courts with windscreen wipers going was worrying, but the rain soon stopped and the weather improved quickly to provide excellent playing conditions.
Harbury TC were represented by regulars Caroline Morland and Nigel Eaton, and debutants Tamsin Frost and Mathieu Savin, playing in their first league match for Harbury TC. The first matches were the men’s and ladies’ doubles. The men’s match was very competitive but unfortunately the Warwick men were the better doubles players and had a comfortable victory. However, it was better news for the ladies where Harbury had an excellent win.
This was followed by the two mixed doubles matches. Caroline and Nigel won both sets in the top match. Tamsin and Mathieu had a long struggle in the second match but ultimately lost both sets although they took the second set to a tie-break. This left the overall match drawn at four sets each with each team having won an identical number of games.
The matches were followed by a very convivial time spent sitting outside in the sun tucking into an afternoon tea of sandwiches, cake, savoury snacks, and strawberries and cream. Hopefully Tamsin and Mathieu enjoyed themselves and thought that this was a very nice way to spend a Saturday afternoon, as we hope to see them playing many more league matches.
