HWTC 2019 AGM Minutes - 1st May 2019 held at Hartley Wintney Cricket Club
1. Welcome & Apologies for absence
Approximately 50 people were in attendance and therefore quorate.
2. Chairman’s Report
a) Paul Clinton gave a general overview of the past year and in particular gave thanks to:
- The committee for their efforts throughout the year
- Bob Bartley for his excellent contribution over the years in as Facilities lead on the committee, having recently stood down
- Jamie Macdonald for his committee support in the last year, having also recently stood down
- Linda Powell and Steve Airton for organising the weekly social tennis. Linda has decided to stand down after many years of excellent organisation of Rusty Racquets on Tuesdays. Mark Hawes kindly volunteered to take over this role on behalf of the club.
b) The proposal to move the membership and financial years to start from 1st March 2020 was agreed. Paul requested a voluntary contribution of £20 per household as a bridge for the 8-month gap in fees from July to end February.
c) Club Finances for the year ending 31st December 2018 were approved.
3. Election of the Committee for the coming year.
The committee members were duly elected:
Chairman - Paul Clinton elected
Treasurer – Jane Stancombe elected
Secretary – Sue Austin elected
LTA Liaison - John Pengelly elected
Facilities/Nets - vacant
Schools / Junior Liaison - Jamie Cheetham elected
Ordinary Member - Paul Tomlinson elected
Ordinary Member - Rob Jenkins elected
4. Awards presentations
There was excellent participation in club tournaments. Congratulations were made to the winners of the following events:
Senior Winter Competition Champions
- Yutaka Tanaka (Men’s Singles)
- Linda Powell (Women’s Singles)
- Sue Bartley & Sue Austin (Women’s Doubles)
- Rob Jenkins & Jamie Macdonald (Men’s Doubles)
- Alison Irani & Yutaka Tanaka (Mixed Doubles)
5. Membership Survey - results and discussion.

Conclusions and actions:
Congratulations to Nic Stevenson who won the prize draw for completing the survey - a year’s free family membership
There was strong membership support for the following:
- Additional organised adult tennis. We will trial Sunday morning alternative ladies and men's sessions and Cardio tennis on Wednesday evenings. Details to be shared soon.
- Discussions are ongoing to increase our collaboration with Eversley Tennis Club.
- A junior programme to encourage greater junior and family play. Details to be shared soon.
- A recommendation to monitor court usage between now and the next AGM before any conclusions can be drawn about floodlight investment.
- More regular club communications about events and news
- Club socials - if anyone would like to lead or support these, or any other club events, please get in touch
6. 2019 Programme of events:
- Junior Programme – details to be shared soon
- Senior Competitions – Summer singles/mixed doubles / ladies doubles / men’s doubles
- Rusty Racquets - fun, sociable tennis on Tuesday nights
- Thursday Round Robin mixed doubles tournament
- Interclub team tournaments

7. The Wimbledon ticket draw took place, with 32 pairs of tickets distributed to members
