Coaching Philosophy
At Harvey Becker Racquet Centre, our coaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that each player is unique. While every player’s style may differ, there are fundamental elements that all athletes need to master, such as balance, swing path, and contact point. Our approach provides the flexibility to help each player discover the best way to achieve these essentials, adapting techniques to suit individual strengths.
This approach extends to the mental and strategic aspects of the game. Our coaching follows a structured progression, where each element builds on the last—much like assembling an IKEA model—to ensure players achieve the best results possible.

Grading
- Beginners - Not able to hit a rally, not had any formal coaching all shots
- Low Intermediate - Can rally from service line and some rallying at baseline. Can just about get serve occasionally in service box. Knows the scoring and rules but has little strategy skills
- Intermediate - Can rally at baseline with some technique and has fair idea of net play. Consistently get serve into the box with a little pace and spin occasionally
- High Intermediate - Rallying with some accuracy & power from baseline. Net play is solid without total dominance. Beginning to string combinations together First serve is fairly strong and with a reasonable 2nd serve. Good concept of strategy
- Advanced - Consistently solid all round game with spins and power on all shots. Has a decent 2nd serve that is hard to attack. Has 2 good weapons (normaally Serve and Forehand). Advanced tactics and knowledge of strategy in singles and doubles. Competes in high leagues within club
