Session plans

Tennis For Free - Kids Stations 1st Mar

Relay race

  1. Each group will be split into two teams, who will compete against each other at different races
  2. Racquet dribbling - using the racquet, move a ball along the ground between 4-5 cones and back.
  3. Bouncing the ball on the strings - from tram line to tram line, the player must bounce their ball on their strings to the other end of the court, and returning back (if it's too easy, then they could bounce it on the frame of their racquet!).
  4. Shuttle run using a ball

Floor tennis

  1. Place two cones with a tennis ball on top, on each side of the court, roughly 1m apart, to act as “goals.”
  2. The aim of the game is to use a racquet to roll the ball along the ground, and to knock off the ball from your opponent’s racquet. Play to 5 points, then swap places.
  3. If it is too easy, then move the goals further apart or further away from each other, and vice versa if it’s too difficult.

Tennis racquet target throwing

  1. Each player should place their racquet on the floor, roughly 2-4m from the mini-nets
  2. The player with the ball should throw overarm, facing sideways
  3. The player catching should let the ball bounce once, and then catch it.
  4. If the ball lands on ANY PART of the racquet on the first bounce, that player scores a point.
  5. If the catching player blocks the ball, their opponent gains 2 points.

Take down

  1. Assign each player a colour.
  2. In order to score a point, each player must use an underarm feed to hit a cone of their colour.
  3. To take another player down, they must hit their colour spot using an underarm feed.
  4. If they hit a cone of another player’s colour after hitting their spot, they take them down, and that player needs to sit out for 30 seconds.
  5. The player with the most points at the end of the time is the winner.
  6. Add or take away cones to change the difficulty.
