HLTC Newsletter – May 2025
Welcome to the May 2025 edition of our Club newsletter. Here's some items of note from the past month:
On the 11th of May ex-Davis Cup players Danny Sapsford and Luke Milligan held a fun day at the Club, comprising group coaching, serving competitions and exhibition matches. Many of you took the opportunity to take part and it was a great success, raising in excess of £600 for the club. Thanks to Sean for setting this up, and Bright Ideas for Tennis, the charity led by Danny, for a great day.
And whilst we are on the subject of coaching, our very own Sean Watson has won the runner-up spot in the Coach of the Year category at the recent Reigate and Banstead Borough Council's Sports Awards. Well done to Sean and his team.
The Summer Tournament entry sheets are up in the clubhouse. Get your name down soon as entries close on 26th May. A club wide email was sent out on 8th May with all the details and the Rules are on our website and Tournaments noticeboard in the Clubhouse.
This coming bank holiday will host an American style tournament (Monday 26th May - weather permitting). Entry is £2 per person with small prizes for the winners & runners up. Details are in a recent email explaining how it works and timings on the day.
It's Summer Party time, 7th June @7:30pm. Get your tickets at the bar or from the usual suspects. The catering for this year will include a tasty BBQ too.
Our next Wednesday Lunch Club is on the 18th June. Great food and company as usual. Those interested, please put your name on the clipboard near the clubhouse back door.
The committee are considering the costs of resurfacing courts 1/2/3 against the anticipated use and availability of funds. Beyond resurfacing it makes sense to incorporate new court mesh fencing, gates and net posts at the same time as they are all past their best. We will keep you posted.
The new entrance gates will be finished in the next two weeks or so, as will the block paving extension to permit use of the new pedestrian gate. Please continue to be aware of uneven surfaces in the interim.
And finally, we are looking for someone to be part of the committee and help with club direction and decision making moving forward. The ideal person would also be responsible for agendas and minutes once every 2 months. Any age or gender. An ideal opportunity to help drive the club forward.
As always, any feedback welcome on tennishorley@gmail.com
