HLTC Newsletter – July 2025
Welcome to the July 2025 edition of our Club newsletter. Here’s some of items of note from the past month.
The Summer Tournament is underway, and once again the Tournament Committee reminds you that it's important to check the dates of your matches and organise them well in advance.
Thanks to Tony Mealin and all those who helped move furniture and clean the clubhouse carpets and seating on one of the hottest days of year so far; looks so much better.
Tom Elliot held his annual ‘Wimbledon Tournament’ last Sunday. It was good to see a broad age range take part, including a 12 year old. After 5 long rounds/final, Tony and Tina took the win against Chrissie and Paul. The day finished with a BBQ followed by strawberries and cream of course.
Remember that we are having the annual Spring Clean 'Scrub the Club' day on 3rd August from 9.30am. There's a list of tasks in the Clubhouse to see what works for you. The club relies on members to help out for an hour or two, otherwise we have to spend our club funds. It can be a good social event too, with bacon sandwiches to start.
Please take home any rubbish from your own food and drinks etc as we are being overwhelmed by waste. Food waste in particular will encourage the flies. If impractical to take home please put food waste ONLY in the food waste bin in the kitchen not in other bins.
If you want to book the clubhouse for a special occasion then get in touch with Paul Farrell directly or via the club email below.
Our next Wednesday Lunch Club is on the 10th September. Those interested, please put your name on the clipboard near the clubhouse back door.
Work on the entranceway blockwork improvements will begin again in September. This will include finishing the block paving to the edge of court 4 and by the floodlight switches. In addition attempts will be made to reduce the water pooling problems, and also a flowerbed redesign as viewed from the clubhouse. Please continue to be aware of uneven surfaces in the interim.
The committee are still working on the cost vs benefits of resurfacing courts 1/2/3. We anticipate a decision before the next newsletter and will let you know what to expect.
A warm welcome to new members: Connor, Jenson, Armando, Scott J, Andrew, Louise, Jemina, Yvonne, Scott H, Bjorn, Ashley, Luke, Lee, Ron, Tilak
And finally, we are pleased to announce that we have a new Club Secretary, Christine North. Many of you will know Christine from both tennis and pickleball; she has just taken over from Diana Cooper whom we would like to thank for her work as part of the Committee.
As always, any feedback welcome on tennishorley@gmail.com
