Biography:

Hi, my name is Dave Morgan and I was born and bred in Hertfordshire and have had a love of tennis for as long as I can remember.  At the age of 18, I won a scholarship to be part of an exchange, allowing me to play tennis in Pennsylvania.   It was a great opportunity and this is where I was able to develop my skills playing team tennis until I graduated.

On return to the UK, I settled in Bolton with my wife and five children; they grew up with tennis as I thoroughly enjoyed teaching them to become accomplished in the sport.  So much so that Rob and George achieved considerable success at Wimbledon.  Following retirement from competition, the sons now coach to the highest level.  You may see them on occasion on our courts at Leyland, as they train up and coming players.

Firstly, I was the coach at Hatfield Tennis Club, Hertfordshire in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, then ran and owned a non-tennis-related business until 2003 when I decided to return to tennis coaching.  I requalified as an LTA accredited coach, at Level 4 CCA and I maintain this level through regularly attending courses to ensure that I keep up to date with the very latest coaching methods.

During my time as a tennis coach, I have enjoyed working with a wide variety of players, from complete beginners, through to county and internationally ranked players. I believe strongly that tennis is a sport that supports health for all ages; it teaches children to achieve success through a disciplined approach in learning a new skill, how to be a team player and of course it is very healthy exercise. Many of the children I have taught have continued to play competitively as adults or simply as a healthy activity that combats the stresses of today’s world.  I teach lots of bespoke lessons to adults who may working to improve their game or returning to the sport or they want to learn as complete beginners.

As head of the coaching programme at Leyland Tennis Club, I welcome enquiries and encourage new players to visit us and enjoy a FREE taster session.

Tennis philosophy:
Enjoy your tennis wherever you play it. It’s a game for life.
