Todmorden A vs Liveredge A
The first team had a tough away fixture on the road to Todmorden A, reigning champions of the league from 2019 prior to the COVID-19 pandemic cancellation of the 2020 season. The team consisted of Andy Lucas, Barry Dennahy, Rohan Duffin and Hylton Idle (who was a late replacement for Oliver Barker who was unwell).
Hylton Idle and Rohan Duffin unfortunately lost 6-1 6-1 in their openign rubber to the excellent first pair of Mark Cheetham and Matthew Boyle.
After arriving at 6:43pm at a venue without floodlights Andy Lucas and Barry Dennahy saw a first set which went all the way to a tiebreak. The Liversedge A pair had a 6-1 lead in the tiebreak which was clawed back to 6-6. Two good points later however and Liversedge had their first set of the evening. This however took over an hour and with a sunset of around 9:00pm finishing the remaining sets would be tough. Luckily, the resolve of the opponents was dented by this tough loss in the first set and the second set was won 6-2 in double quick time.
On rotation, Hylton Idle and Rohan Duffin were 2-6 3-6 when bad light stopped play and Andy Lucas and Barry Dennahy were 4-6 3-1 in a tightly contested match.
Overall the match was lost three sets to five with the two sets won counting as whole points and each of the sets stopped due to bad light counting for a half each.
Liversedge B vs Wellholme B
The write up for this match was made simpler by the fact that Wellholme B only brought one pair so Wellholme were effectively 4 sets to 0 in arrears before the match started.
Rutwij Patel and Masood Ahmed went on to play the only pair first however after winning the first set 6-2 the rain came in and stayed for the remainder of the evening.
The three unplayed sets were all halved, meaning the match was won by Liversedge B 6.5 to 1.5.
A big thank you to Richard Ellis (Captain) and Hellmut Maack who turned up but did not hit a ball in anger!
