First win for the first team

Queens B Liversedge A

At the start of the year the first team looked at the entrants to the league and thought it was the highest quality ever, with no easy games. The first team knew that if they were to avoid relegation by not finishing in the bottom two teams, matches like Queens B, despite being tough, would have to be won.

Two of the Queens B team have phenomenal forehands so it was a night whereby the team would have to use guile and variety to avoid these weapons.

The first round of matches saw Andy Lucas and Barry Dennahy defeat John Clarke and Jake Simon 6-3 6-1 in a match whereby the scoreline flattered the Liversedge pair. There was many tight games and a myriad of absolutely blistering forehands from Jake (who didn't hit a backhand in the entire two sets). On the other court Rohan Duffin and Hylton Idle defeated Jimmy Sutcliffe and partner 7-5 6-3, winning a topsy turvy first set after being 3-1 up but then 3-5 down.

On rotation Oliver Barker and Rohan Duffin were victorious 6-2 6-0.

Barry Dennahy and Andy Lucas had 6-0 5-0 DEUCE but could not serve up a double bagel, eventually being victorious 6-0 6-1.

The match finished Queens B 0 Liversedge A 8 and these are eight needed points for Liversedge A in what will inevitably be a fight for survival.

Liversedge B Soyland B

Liversedge B had their first really competiive fixture against a strong Soyland B team.

In the first round of matches Hylton Idle and David Watson won 6-3 3-6 10-3 (the championship tiebreak counting for a full point) and Hellmut Maack and Richard Ellis (Captain) won another tightly contested affair 7-5 7-5.

The tight matches of the first round took its toll on the Soyland second pair that were handily beaten 6-0 6-1 by David Watson and Hylton Idle.

Richard Ellis and Helmut Maack managed to secure a seventh point by winning one set in defeat to the first pair 6-1 5-7 6-10.

The final score was Liversedge B 7 Soyland Town B 3.
