HAVE A HIT AND KEEP FIT! (Update 6th January 2024)

MARK CODGBROOK

It is with great sadness that we contact you all today to inform you
that Mark Codgbrook, our Club Chairman, passed away at his home in Looe
last night. This very sad news is all the more of
a shock since, as many of you know, Mark had just successfully
completed, with his trademark fortitude and determination, a course of
treatment for a long term illness. Moreover, yesterday afternoon he
played in the Men's afternoon mix-in with all of his usual skill and
determination, chasing down and hitting back balls with all of the
tenacity that we had come to expect from him on court.

After a highly successful career serving in the RAF as a commissioned
officer, Mark and his family settled in Looe. Mark, an avid sportsman,
became an extremely active member of our Tennis Club, regularly
participating in Club social mix-ins and other events. He served for
several years as a hard working member of our management committee where
his leadership, experience and sound advice were held in much regard. As
Men's Team Captain he also put in much time and effort to ensuring the
Club was properly represented in the Plymouth & District, and Cornwall
Leagues. We will greatly miss the energy and effort he displayed in
ensuring the smooth running of the Club and the tennis teams.

We are sure you will all join us in passing on our condolences and best
wishes at this difficult time to his wife Joyce, his children Richard, Emma and June, his mother Olive and his
grandchildren.

Just a reminder to all members, guest and visitors to our Club regarding the booking of courts. The Club has an informal system of turn-up-and-play which tends to work well. Please do remember though that Club organised events have priority on the courts. There is a blackboard on the exterior wall of the clubhouse which is mostly updated on a weekly basis for different Club events and the calendar tab on this website will also be updated once some technical problems have been overome. On those rare occasions when all the courts are busy please be considerate of those waiting to play, should all of the courts be full.

The mid-week Wednesday social, mix-in sessions will continue until the clocks go back but will begin at the earlier start time of 16-30. These were very well supported last year and we look forward to seeing you down on the courts.

The latest edition of "The Drop Shot" had already been circulated by email but you can find a link to this below. "The Drop Shot," our Looe Tennis Club news letter, is designed to help you to keep abreast of the latest issues and developments at our club and feature information on the teams and fixtures for the league games in the Summer Season. There is also now a Club Whatsapp Group for members. Please let us know on looetennis@gmail.com if you not on this Whatsapp Group and would like to be included.

Looe Tennis Club - Introduction

Looe Lawn Tennis Club is a friendly and socially orientated tennis club with a spectacular seaside setting in the South Cornwall fishing port and well-known holiday destination of Looe.  We are open all year round for members and guests of all standards.

We usually have mix-in sessions for club members on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings. If you fancy a more competitive challenge then we also run team practice sessions for ladies and gentlemen, since we enter teams in both the Plymouth and District Men's and Ladies Doubles and the Ladies and Men's Cornwall League.

We have five recently resurfaced, all-weather courts, and we are also fortunate enough to have a traditional club house, replete with veranda where you can view the matches in progress and offer appropriate encouragement, a kitchen with free tea & coffee etc, and of course rest rooms and somewhere to change in the rare event that rain stops play!
