The 2022 Melrose Mixed Open tennis tournament took place on Saturday 2 April. It saw 24 tennis players compete in a one-day mixed doubles competition.
After a forced hiatus of a couple of years because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament made a popular and successful return, with players competing from clubs across the Borders, including Berwick-upon-Tweed, Duns, St Boswells, Earlston, Hawick, Peebles and Melrose, along with Dalkeith club in East Lothian. The tournament referee was MWTC Club President, Will Grieve.
The tournament was generously sponsored by Cleland Volvo. Local businessman and former British Touring Car Champion, John Cleland, was on hand to present the trophies following an exciting final between Felicity Walls and Harris Brogan, and Lisa Campbell and Craig Thomas.
The young partnership of Felicity and Harris were the eventual winners and they were presented with glass trophies which had been made by Peter Holmes of Borders Art Glass in Hawick.
The plate winners were Laura Barrie and Fraser Rout. All participants received special bag tags that had been made by local company My Clubtags of Selkirk.
The tournament marks the start of the tennis season in the Borders, with ladies’ and men’s league matches commencing on 19 and 20 April.
