Register now for fun members Doubles Competition

As there was no Wimbledon in 2020, there was also sadly no annual Strawberry Tournament. For the benefit of our new members, the Strawberry tournament is usually our largest competition of the year held just before Wimbledon with strawberries, cake and always a great day!

Instead this replacement summer fun tournament will be held on Saturday 12th September 2020. Registration at 12.30pm for a PROMPT 1pm start. This is a fantastic chance for new and old players to get to play together in a fun and friendly tournament. Due to you know what, alas this year there will be no strawberries or cake – unless you bring your own and don’t share!

The format will follow that of previous years, being 8 games per match (generally at least 4 matches) in American Doubles format – meaning half of the games in a match are played with your (randomly drawn) partner and half the games played against your partner. It is your individual game score that matters. We aim to play the final between 5-6pm. Minimum entry age 16 (under 16 by application – if you are interested please get in touch).

The emphasis of this tournament is fun and socialising in the spirit of our usual Saturday social tennis afternoons. We’ve gained a number of new members since the start of this unusual season and this is a great opportunity for you to come out and get to know the regulars! We’d love to see you.

Entry in advance welcomed for a reduced fee of £5. To register, please pay your fee and contact club secretary Wendy at info@mirfieldtennisclub.co.uk. Please make BACS payment to Mirfield Tennis Club account (details included in members email sent on 9th August) with your name as reference. Please note, entry on the day will only be allowed if there are spaces available and must be before 12.30pm – cost £10 per player.

Hopefully we will be able to fire up the BBQ, which will be on a bring your own food basis, in time to watch the semi-finals & final. If no BBQ you could always bring your own snacks. There are soft drinks to purchase and possibly a Pimms if the weather is kind.

If non players are available to help out with organisation and running the BBQ, that would be hugely appreciated – please let us know if you are able to help.
