At the Sowton Services junction with the M5, junction 30, follow the signs to Sidmouth taking the A3052 for 5 miles until you enter the village of Newton Poppleford. Continue to follow the signs towards Sidmouth through the village past the Cannon Inn and Exeter Inn, down Station Road and turn left into Back Lane. Take the A3052 towards Exeter. As you decend a steep hill, Four Elms Hill, you will pass the signs to Newton Poppleford then go over a bridge taking you over the River Otter.
