COVID-19 Update

UPDATE: 6 January

Following on from the First Minister’s announcement of new stay at home regulations coming into effect on 5 January, we have updated our guidance to reflect the new level 4 restrictions for recreational tennis activity.

The key changes to the level 4 restrictions are as follows:

  • Adults and children aged 12 and above can only take part in outdoor singles tennis, unless all participants are members of the same household or extended household. This is in line with the requirement that only up to 2 people from 2 different households may participate in outdoor sport and exercise.
  • Those aged 11 and below are exempt from these gathering limits, and organised outdoor group tennis activity for under-12s can continue in line with COVID-Secure guidance from the Scottish Government, Tennis Scotland and the LTA, and sportscotland.

Building on the success of the junior and mini tennis coaching programmes in Newtonmore over the past 5 years, together with the steady increase in numbers of children and adults who are playing tennis on the Newtonmore tennis courts, Newtonmore Tennis Club was re-constituted in October 2018 by a steering group of enthusiastic and committed people.

The Goals of the Newtonmore Tennis Club:

  • to become a Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) registered tennis venue;
  • to improve the tennis facilities by resurfacing the existing three tennis courts and replacing the tennis nets;
  • to promote and develop mini, junior and adult tennis, on both recreational and competitive levels; and
  • to provide quality tennis coaching programmes to individuals and groups of adults and children.

The benefits of becoming an LTA registered tennis club include access to funding for facility maintenance and improvement, club entitlement to Wimbledon Tennis Tournament tickets annually, public liability insurance, options to enter local team tennis leagues and entitlement to participate in LTA sponsored junior and adult tennis initiatives.

As a newly re-established tennis club and taking into consideration the current state of our tennis courts, we have set the membership fees at a modest level. However, we are planning to apply this year to the LTA Community Fund for contributory funding for our court improvement project with a view to raising the required funds and implementing the resurfacing project during Spring 2020.

We are confident that having improved tennis courts in Newtonmore will be beneficial to the local community and will prove an added attraction to our visitors.
