What a fantastic Finals’s Day we had at the tennis club on Saturday when we also celebrated our 95th anniversary with a slice of special cake each and glass of fizz.
The sun shone all day and over 50 spectators watched the seven finals matches being played from 11am until dusk.
The results were interesting with a changing of the guard with some new winners!
Men’s singles- Sam Randell beat Jamie Thomas 5-7, 6-4, 7-6.
Ladies singles. Bev Cleaver beat Elaine Whitham 7-6, 5-7, 10-4.
Men’s doubles. Marcus and James Robertson beat Jamie Thomas and Andy Riding 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Ladies doubles. Penny Luke and Jane Hatter beat Bev Cleaver and Sandie Benham 7-6, 6-2.
Men’s Handicap Doubles. Deep Srivastava and Adrian Nessman beat Nigel Hatt and Mike Chamberlain 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
Ladies Handicap doubles. Jen Cockerell and Lynn Pullen beat Heather Mountford and Lorna Butler 6-1, 6-2.
Mixed Doubles. Penny Luke and Marcus Robertson beat Lynne and Jamie Thomas 6-3, 7-5. Virtually all were
very close results.
The Betty Holmes trophy, awarded to the person who has done the most for the club in the last year was won by Club Treasurer, Jane Reap who has also been the driving force in getting permision for the club to have much needed floodlights.
The great tennis and weather was a fitting day to celebrate the 95th anniversary of our lovely tennis club in Old Basing.
