The final social tournament of 2024 was well attended .
Eighteen players took part playing as many mini matches as could be fit in within the two hour slot, culminating in a final between the winning lady and winning man against the second placed lady and second placed man.
So that was Ruth Sperring and her husband Leigh Sperring against Rhian Jones playing with Chris Smith.
Rhian and Chris were the victors.
The social tournament was followed by the singles final and the mixed doubles handicap final.
The 2024 Club Singles Ladder tournament was enjoyed by 14 participants and ran from May through to September.
The four members who finished the tournament in the top four runs of the ladder were Matt Grice, Gary Edwards, Brett Hollywell and Andy Tsui. These four played out semi final matches to determine the two finalists. Matt and Gary won those semi finals and played off on Club finals Day in a repeat of last year's final.
Matt started strongly, playing aggressive, accurate tennis which Gary had no answer to and soon took the first set 6-0. The second set was more competitive but again Matt proved to be too strong, winning by 6-3.
So Matt deservedly retained the club Singles cup.
The Club's 2024 Mixed Doubles Handicap tournament was enjoyed by eighteen players and was played over the summer months.
The finalists were Brett Hollywell playing with Shirley Jones against Tom Deforest playing with Clare Hann.
In a nip and tuck closely fought final Brett and Shirley showed great tactical awareness and came out as winners.
