Tracy Smith's Tennis Journey

Tennis most definitely runs in the family.  My mum played for Durham & Cleveland and my dad was a tournament referee so it was inevitable it would feature in my life too.  From the age of eight my identical twin sister and I started our tennis journey and what a journey we embarked on. I have shared so many unforgettable memories along the way and achieved things that have changed and moulded my life. As a junior and senior player it has been an honour to play at Club, County, Regional, National and International Level.

Looking back I have so many moments to be proud of but one or two really stand out for me.  Representing Northumberland County Ladies, where with my sister Gillian, we won 149 matches out of 150 spanning 11 years, this achievement has just been recognised by the Lawn Tennis Association as a National Record for most matches won since records began 125 years ago!.  In my senior years, I also represented Great Britain playing in The World Team Championships and  won a Bronze Medal for the Country.

Tennis has been such a big part of my life since I can remember and I wouldn't change it for the world.  Having been a Tennis Coach for around 25 years it's safe to say I love my job. I get the most enjoyment out of my job, watching people improve, no matter their standard and seeing the elation on their faces. I have experienced a lot in my tennis career and would like to pass on the knowledge I've gained. I believe learning to play tennis should be centred round a fun environment, so try to balance lessons with both knowledge and fun.  I take pride in being a Tennis Coach and count myself lucky to have to skills to be able to teach others how to enjoy the game as much as I do.   Tracy
