Return to Tennis - An update from Romsey Tennis Coaching Team

Dear juniors, adults, and tennis parents,

We hope you are well and keeping your spirits up through the third national lockdown.

The Romsey Tennis coaching team wanted to give you an update on what we are planning for the resumption of tennis, and some new ideas for our services as things move back to nearer normal.

On the 22nd of February, the Government is to announce details of its plans to ease lockdown.  Throughout lockdown, the LTA has discussed with Government the safe resumption of tennis activities as a naturally distanced sport.  We do not know when or how the reopening will happen, but we expect any return to tennis will be gradual/phased as restrictions are relaxed. We do hope that tennis will be one of the earlier sports to be able resume in some form.

As with previous lockdowns, when further details are available, we will advise (via email) how we will manage the gradual return to tennis.  Whilst we do not anticipate a return to full activity soon, we are hoping that in the summer we will be able to offer a more normal programme.  We are also hoping that we can include some new activities such as internal junior competitions, as well as some new options for regular adult competition.

In the meantime, to keep you on your toes, the LTA has launched free virtual coaching sessions for families throughout February.  These sessions will be delivered by LTA Coach of the Year, Matt Smith, and can be accessed on LTA Facebook and/or LTA TikTok. If you are interested in taking part in these fun sessions, more details can be found at LTA: Free Tennis Coaching Sessions for Families.

We look forward to seeing you all back on court soon.  Stay safe,

Mihály and the Coaching Team 😊
