Patricia (Pat) Maclean (née Hird) has today (Thursday 13th February 2025) been awarded with the Freedom of Ryde during a short presentation held in the Ryde Mead Lawn Tennis Club clubhouse.
Pat is a well-known and much loved member here at Ryde Mead LTC, and has been awarded the Freedom of Ryde for her Lifelong Contribution to Sport, both locally and nationally.
Pat is a former British tennis player, representing Great Britain in the Wightman Cup in 1954, and twice reached the fourth round of the Wimbledon singles event. She was a two-time quarterfinalist in the Wimbledon women's doubles event too, and remains a proud member of the All England Lawn Tennis Club.
Following her achievements on the tennis court, she soon took up a coaching role here at Ryde Mead Lawn Tennis Club, dedicating her time to coaching the next generation of tennis players here on the island. She still offers her words of advice to current members to this day.
Many congratulations on your award Pat!
