Introduction

Established in the 70s, Shadwell Tennis Club offers a warm welcome to players of all standards. Our two all-weather tennis courts are located in the middle of a friendly, quiet and safe neighbourhood, not far from Shadwell Primary School. Our club has a fantastic programme which provides a great experience for those who want to learn to play better tennis, have fun, get fit or just socialise.  Our dedicated team of volunteers is constantly enhancing our programme and facilities.

Access to the Courts

Our address is: The Ginnel, rear of 153 Main Street, Shadwell, Leeds, LS17 8JD

The courts, which are not visible from the road, are accessed through a gate in the high stone wall which runs along the ginnel. The ginnel starts at the bend next to 153 Main Street (LS17 8JD), runs between Ash Hill Drive (LS17 8JR) and Church Farm Garth (LS17 8HD) and continues through to St Paul's Church yard. The ginnel is not shown on Google Maps!

There is no vehicular access to the club so please be considerate to our neighbours and park responsibly. You can also travel to the club using the 7S bus (alight by Shadwell fish and chip shop).

What We Offer

At Shadwell Tennis Club, we are proud to uphold—and exceed—all LTA safeguarding standards. We provide an inclusive, safe, and supportive environment where players of all ages, especially young people, can learn, grow, and enjoy the game. Our artificial‑turf courts are available year‑round, weather and daylight permitting, and we warmly welcome more adults and families to join our community.

Court Bookings

To ensure fair access for everyone, members are required to book courts in advance. This helps secure your playing time and lets others know when courts are in use.

Social Tennis

We host a variety of social tennis sessions open to adult players of all standards. These sessions are free for club members. Our U3A session is also free for members aged 55+ and for U3A members. Full details can be found on the Social Tennis page under the More menu.

Coaching for All Ages and Abilities

Whether you’re picking up a racket for the first time or looking to refine your skills, our coaching programme has something for you. Led by an LTA‑accredited professional coach, we offer both individual and group coaching for juniors and adults. Our junior programme is particularly strong, and we also run fun holiday Tennis Camps throughout the year.
Look out for exciting events such as the Adult & Junior Competition, Team Challenge, Easter Egg Hunt, Monster Smash, and many more.
Further details are available on our Coaching page.

A Club That’s Always Improving

Our dedicated volunteer committee works tirelessly to enhance both our facilities and our member experience. We are committed to fostering a vibrant, friendly, and active club community—on and off the court.
