Match Update

Tues 10th August:

Shillingstone Ladies Team travelled to Swanage last night to play their final game of the season in the Dorset LTA Summer Doubles League.  After over three hours of play, starting in brilliant sunshine and finishing under floodlights, the team lost to a very strong opposition.  Well played everyone.

Sat 7th August:

Dorset LTA Summer 2021 League - Ladies Division 3

Shillingstone v East Dorset C

A match of 2 halves owing to a rain break in the middle.

Jo and Kathy (Pair 1) won 6 - 3 and 6 -1. Heather and Sharon (Pair 2) won 7 - 6 and 6 -3.

Then came the rain. Luckily, we were able to continue although it was quite a challenge to get back on form. Kathy and Jo lost their first set against E/D Pair number 2 (4 - 6). But they battled on to win the next set 6 -0. This meant they had to play a 10 point tie break set to decide the winner of this rubber. They pulled out all the stops and won the tie break set - very well done.

Heather and Sharon, playing E/D number 1 pair lost the first set 2 - 6 but rallied around and were ahead 5 - 1 in the second set. Unfortunately, they could not hold their lead and lost the set 5 - 7.

Overall, Shillingstone won the match and received the full 6 points.

Shillingstone are currently second in the table with one more match to play.

Sat 31st July:

DIVISION WINNERS!

The mens team played their final match of the summer league vs Sway and came out convincing winners.

Dave and Jack winning 6-0 6-0 and 6-0 6-0

Dean and Dan winning 6-1 6-1 and 6-1 6-0

The result leave means we remain unbeaten, with 5 wins and a winning draw from the 6 matches giving us an unassailable lead in the division. Well done to the whole team!

Hopefully we continue the good form into the winter season.

Sunday 18th July:

In the searing heat this Sunday the mens team pulled off a brilliant hard fought win vs an extremely tough East Christchurch team (that was made up mostly of their coaches!!).

Jack and Dave won 6-1 6-3 then 4-6 7-5 10-8.

Dean and Dan lost  4-6 6-7 then won 6-3 6-7 10-6

The result means a win in the last game of the season would see us promoted.

Tues 13th July:

The A team have won their final three matches in the Shaftesbury League Division 1, retaining their position as League Winners!

Last Thursday on a sunny evening they secured a 9-1 win against Pyt House A.

This Monday once the terrential rain had stopped, and three weeks after the match was started and then postponed due to rain, the A team secured a home victory against Marnhull A. The ladies had an incredibly close match winning the first set on a tie break and then winning the second set which was played as a ten point tie break as the light was fading.

The final match of the season was played tonight again after rainfall against Blandford, the result being 8-2.

Well played to Kathy, Jo, Mike and Rich, and thank you to Alex, Dave S, and Dave T for making a guest appearance for one match each 🙂

Tues 6th July:

On a very gusty, windy evening, Shillingstone B played Shaftesbury in the Shaftesbury Tennis League.

Unfortunately, Shillingstone were somewhat overwhelmed by Shaftesbury.  Congratulations go to them for their top spins and serving skills.  Rob and Tracey managed to take one set to 7-5 (Shaftesbury win) but the remainder of the sets were not quite as close.  This has dropped our ranking in the division but there are still 2 more matches to play.

Sat 3rd July:

Another convincing win for the Shillingstone mens team this Saturday at home vs Swanage B to consolidate our position at the top of the division.

Jack and Dave won 6-0 6-0 and 6-1 6-1

Dean and Dan won 6-1 6-0 and 6-0 6-0

Sun 20th June:

Another home victory for the Shillingstone Mens team today vs East Dorset E.

Dean And Dan winning 6-4 6-2 and 6-2 6-2

Jack and Dave winning 6-4 6-2 and 6-2 6-2.

The result puts us back at the top of the division with 3 wins from 3.

Tuesday 15th June - Shaftesbury League:

Marnhull B v Shillingstone B

Shillingstone won 6 out of the 8 sets played - all great games. The final score was 2-8 - Shillingstone B winners.

Monday 14th June '21:

Shillingstone A played a home match against Pyt House on Monday winning 7 of the 8 sets played with an overall result of 9-1.

Well played Kathy, Jo, Alex and Mike!

Friday 11th June:

This was the second half of the ladies match v Corfe Mullen (Dorset LTA League ) which had been postponed owing to rain.

At the start of the match both teams were even with 2 rubbers each - Shillingstone had one game in hand. Sharon and Heather had to play Corfe Mullen’s number 1 pair. Unfortunately they lost both sets. Kathy and Jo, playing the number 2 pair, lost their first set but won the second set 7-5. It came down to a tie break set. Kathy and Jo fought hard and managed to win the tie break set. So, at the end it was 4 -4 in rubbers. Corfe Mullen were one set up so declared winners. The points will be split: Corfe Mullen 4-Shillingstone 2.

A hard fought and enjoyable match between the two teams.

Thursday 10th June '21:

Shillingstone A played an away match this evening in the Shaftesbury League, against Blandford.
On an evening with near perfect conditions, warm with no wind and no sun, Shillingstone A won all sets played and the final score was 10-0 to Shillingstone.  A great result!
Well played Mike, Rich, Kathy and Jo.

Tuesday 8th June '21:

Shillingstone won all of their mixed sets, putting them 4-0 ahead at the halfway mark. Rob and Alex won a set and lost a set in the men’s doubles. Heather and Sharon won their first set. As the sun was going down and making it very difficult to see, their second set went to a tie break. At 6-1 down in the tie break, some may have felt all was lost....but Heather and Sharon pulled it back and reached 9-9. Unfortunately, the next 2 points went to Chalke Valley.

The score was 6-2 but with an extra 2 points added for the winning team the final score was 8-2 to Shillingstone.

A thoroughly enjoyable game -thanks to Chalke Valley and well done to Shillingstone B.

5/6/21:

The Men's team were back on form this Saturday winning 8-0 in a hard fought match vs a youthful East Dorset D team. The result puts us top of the league after two games.

Jack and Dave won 6-3 6-2 and 6-0 6-1

Dean and Dan won 7-6 7-5 and 6-0 6-2.

The ladies went on a road trip, through the New Forest, to play a match at Sway.  It was lovely to have a day without any forecast of rain.

Jo and Kathy won all of their sets convincingly.

Heather and Sharon won their first rubber, after taking it to a Championship Tie break set.  Unfortunately, they lost the next rubber.  So, overall, Shillingstone won the match and are now top of Division 3 with 12 points from their first 2 matches.
