Welcome to Shirley Park Lawn Tennis Club. Whether you are an existing member or new to the club we hope this guide will give you all the practical information you will need to know.
Shirley Park Lawn Tennis Club was founded in 1914 and was originally located as the name suggests in the Shirley Park area of Croydon on the site now occupied by Trinity School. Having relocated to our current home in 1961 the club now enjoys the use of its ten courts (including two grass courts) whilst sharing the facilities of the pavilion with the other clubs at Sandilands which include cricket, hockey and running. Shirley Park has always been known as a friendly club, a tradition we aim to uphold. We are looking forward to a new season with many tennis and social events for us to enjoy.
Come and support your club. If you are not a member, come and join Shirley Park LTC.

The membership season is from 1st May until 30th April. On payment of membership fees all tennis members are supplied with a shoe tag for the current year to denote membership has been paid. The tag should be clearly displayed at all times. There are two main categories of adult tennis membership, designed to allow players of similar standards to enjoy their tennis which are Senior Members and Improvers.
Membership Categories:-
The Senior Member category is for adult members who play at a reasonable level and who understand the rules and etiquette of tennis, with good command of ball control and court positioning during play, and for those who like to play more competitively.
The Improver Member category is an adult member’s stepping stone to Senior membership for Improvers who are new or returning to tennis or developing their skills and may be receiving coaching and wish to play at a more relaxed pace with emphasis on a social game.
Full Time Student membership is for our young adult members who are studying at university or college and only really get to play during the holidays. Junior membership is for all members under the age of 18. Membership categories are also available for members who wish to play mid-week only or live a long way from the club. Members are encouraged to become British Tennis members. If you play in the Surrey League matches it is a requirement that you are a British Tennis member. Similarly, only British Tennis Members affiliated to the club are eligible to enter the ballot for Wimbledon tickets that have been allocated to the club. To join, go to: www.lta.org/membership, and affiliate your membership to Shirley Park.
Social membership is for friends or relatives of club members that don’t play tennis, but may wish to use the club’s lounge & bar facilities regularly and join in with social events.
New Members are always welcome. Applicants wishing to join the club should complete the membership application form, detach and post it to the membership secretary using the address on the form. Forms are available in the clubhouse and can also be downloaded from the website. Applicants for adult tennis will be contacted by the mens captain, ladies captain or club coach to determine whether the applicant joins as a Senior or Improver member.
Coaching – Group coaching is generally held on Saturdays. Phil Pullen, our resident Head Coach will be pleased to discuss any coaching needs you may have. Please contact Phil on 07956 262151 or at philpullentennis@gmail.com. Phil also provides a stringing service.
Court Reservations - All courts are available for use subject to the court priority system. This is shown on the court booking sheets which are placed by the entrance to the clubhouse.
Clothing - Only recognised tennis clothing is to be worn on court. It is most important that proper tennis shoes are worn. Trainers and shoes with ribbed studded or black soles must not be worn as they can damage the court surface.
Visitors - Members are welcome to bring guests in to play at our club. A guest fee of £5.00 is payable for each visit. We ask that a guest plays a maximum of six times in any one membership year. Visitors who wish to attend more than six times will be expected to join as members. Please note that guests must observe the club dress code and ensure that the correct footwear is worn.
As a provision of the club insurance, each guest must be signed in (visitor book available in clubhouse kitchen draw) and the guest fee paid (in the Honesty Box).
Wimbledon Ticket Allocation
Each year the club has an allocation of Wimbledon tickets issued by the LTA. This year the allocation is based upon the number of adult and junior members (aged 9 and over) of Shirley Park who were British Tennis Members affiliated to the club and who had opted into the Wimbledon ballot as at 19th February 2016. who have opted in (as described above) and have renewed their membership by 29thApril will be entitled to enter the Shirley Park LTC Wimbledon Ballot.
