Matches in Hull Tennis League
Some people may not have played in the Hull tennis league before, so here is a bit of an explanation of how it all works.
SCTC try to field 2 or 3 teams for the Ladies, Mixed and Men’s leagues.
Our teams play home matches on the following days:
- Men’s A and Mixed A play on Mondays at 6.30 pm
- Men’s B and Mixed B play on Thursdays at 6.30 pm
- Ladies A and Ladies B play on Saturday at 2 pm
- Mixed C play on Tuesdays at 6.30 pm
- Away matches can be any night or at the weekend
Each match consists of 4 sets played by 2 pairs. There is one home and one away match against each team within your Division. In total there are about 10 matches, played from May to July with August/September for rearranged matches. Match fees are £4 per player per match.
Each team consists of 6/8 players, but only 4 players are needed per match, so you won’t be asked to play in every match. There are around 4 to 5 divisions in the Hull league and in Division 1 some coaches will play. Our A teams are all currently in Division 2! The level in Divisions 3/4 are similar to playing at club night.
If you are interested in playing in a team this year, we ask if you want to be a regular or occasional player. Regular does NOT mean you must play in every match, but you will be in the team and hopefully will play in 60-70% of the matches. If you put occasional you will not be put into a specific team but captains will contact you if they are short of players. They almost always are!
Selection for teams will be done asap (Steve Roberts, Julie Stone, Joyce Lawson and myself are on the selection committee). Our policy is to try to get as many members who have put “regular” into teams as possible. Based on the current numbers that should not be a problem.
