The first of the Club’s Winter Season series of monthly Social Mixed Doubles tournaments got off to a perfect start on Sunday, 26th October with 16 players, equally balanced between men and women.
The picture below shows a number of the players being briefed by the tournament organiser, Ann - the concentration on their faces perhaps indicative of the benefits of holding an event on day 1 of the return to Greenwich Mean Time!

The match format selected for the occasion was based on matches of 8 games with different partners over 4 rounds of tennis. With each round lasting 30 mins, the aim of completing the tournament within 2 hrs was achieved.
The players took to the task of completing 32 games with gusto! As the sun disappeared and a distinctive autumn chill, fed by a breezy westerly wind, took hold, so it became all the more important to keep moving. And they did!
The highest scoring players of the day were Helen Slaven (21 games) and Steve Robinson (23), the runners-up were Miriam McClean (next to Helen with a score of 19 games) and Brian Foster and Ross McInally (each with a score of 19 games).
Our thanks to all who participated in the event and to Ann for yet another enjoyable social tournament.
