November Social Tournament

From the perspective of the weather, the run-up to the tournament, in the words of fluent speakers of franglais, was un peu touche et go! In the event, however, it was no touche and all go, as the blue sky in the picture below amply demonstrates.

And the weather played a significant role in determining the match format, as the tournament was just 7 days away from the start of meteorological winter on 1 December, and the country had just undergo a cold snap.

Against the backcloth of the above, it was decided to base each of the four matches on a 30 minute time frame and not on the number of games played. And so it was out with the whistles to mark the start of eachmatch and, 30 mins later, out with the whistles again to mark the end. In this way a swift transition between each of the four matches was assured.

And the highest scoring members were: Stephen Reynoldson and Nigel Kirkby, the Men’s runners-up, Annette Footman-Williams, the Ladies winner, Ann, the main tournament organiser, Ross McInally, the Men’s winner and Liv Fox, the Ladies runner-up.

As is quite commonly the case in our social tournaments it was great to see new faces among the winners/runners-up in Ross McInally and Liv Fox.

Our thanks to all who participated and particularly to Ann for her inspired tournament organisation.

Our next social tennis event is the Mulled Wine and Mince Pies tournament on Friday, 5th December from 7pm onwards. We look forward to seeing you there!
