Wimbledon experience for Lancashire players

Earlier this month players from across Lancashire won qualified and won the Lancashire Play Your Way To Wimbledon County Finals got the chance to compete on the grass courts of the All England Club in the National Finals.

The event which took place from 3rd - 9th August saw the below players represent Lancashire at Wimbledon:

Men's Doubles - James Dallow & James Hough -Lytham Tennis Club 

Women's Doubles - Laura Chadwicl & Shelagh Parkinson - St Anne's Lawn Tennis & Squash Club

14 & Under Boys Singles - Max Dutton - Eccleston Park Lawn Tennis Club

14 & Under Girls Singles - Abby McDermott - Aughton Lawn Tennis Club 

18 & Under Girls Doubles - Holly Armer & Zara Todd - Holcombe Brook Sports Club 

18 & Under Boys Doubles - Daniel Shalliker & Thomas Johnson - Formby Lawn Tennis Club 

 

Results

Max finished 2nd in his round robin group but was knocked out in the first round of the main draw. Not bad for a 11 year old playing up 2 age groups.

Abby was in a tight round robin group just losing out on the chance to qualify for the main draw on a match tie break.

In the doubles Dan and Thomas lost both their matches.  Holly & Zara came top of their round robin group losing in the quarter finals of the main draw, the girls had a great experience and it will provide motivation for them to keep working hard. 

In the adult doubles James and James lots both of their round robin matches as did Laura and Shelagh with both pairs losing out to finalists of the tournament. Shelagh commented that it was a superb experience which all the players and their supporters thoroughly enjoyed, it is a great event for Club players to experience the dizzy heights of Wimbledon. 

Well done also goes to Neil Balmforth from Liverpool Tennis Centre who won the B3 Men's Visually Impaired event beating fellow Lancastrian Lucas McClay 7-6 in the final!
