Summer County Cup Success

Last week saw the annual LTA Summer County Cup events take place with the Men competing at The All England Lawn Tennis Club Community Tennis Centre, Raynes Park and the Women at Wimbledon Qualifying and Community Sports Centre, Roehampton. 

Men's Team

Captain:            Andrew Davies

Team           Peter Alam, James Ashworth, Liam Broady, Sam Chadwick, Rob Cowley, Ben Davies, Charlie Hutchings and David Quayle.

The team made the journey to London on Sunday hoping that the waether forecase would improve!  Day 1 saw the rain impact play with the fixture against Surrey pausing overnight at 4-4, the men went back the next morning and lost the final match to loose 4-5 which was a tough start. The team bounced back will to beat Hampshire & IOW 7-2 and Day 2 and contine their form to beat local rivals Yorkshire 7-2 on Day 3.  Thursday saw the team play against Derbyshire knowing that a win would put them in a great positin to be promoted. The team beat Derbyshire 6-3 with the rain unfortunately impacting play again. Day 5 saw Lancashire take on Nottinghamshire with the winner guaranteed promotion t oDivision 2.  The fixture was a great battle which saw Nottinghamshire win 5-4,the results of the other fixtures saw Lancashire finished runners up in the group, this saw the team promoted for the 2nd year in a row. 

Well done to all the players and captain, a great result. over the week. A special mention Liam & Peter who won 14 out of 15 matches played!! The results can be found here

Women's Team

Captain:            Sabrina Federici

Team           Samria Butt, Jadesola Cole, Sabrina Federici, Lily Harper, , Lily Hutchings, Elizabeth Rimmer   Zainab Williams & Daisy Wootton.

 

The team travelled down to Surrey on the Sunday with the team missing a few key players due to injury/availability.  The team started strong on Day 1 beating Nottinghamshire 6-3 and followed it up with another win on Tuesday against Hampshire & IOW. Day 3 saw the team take on a very strong Northumberland team with the women 6-3, Northumberland went on to win the group. the women played against Derbyshire on the Thursday with a strong 8-1 win. The final fixture in Group 2 was against a strong Kent side. The fixture finished at 5-1 Kent with remaining matches not paid.

The women finished 3rd in the group and will stay in Group 2 for next year's Summer County Cup.
