News August 2025 – Tennis Club

On Sunday 13th July, in (thankfully) glorious cloud, 24 of Tewin Tennis Club's finest gathered with the aim of being crowned Mixed Doubles Champions for 2025.  Mark Lee, the MC and sorcerer of scoring, cajoled the 12 pairs over 4 hours of tennis using the Tie Break Tens format.

As it's name implies, this entailed each match being first to 10 points using a tie break format. The format proved very successful with a number of matches ending 10-9 and each match lasting less than 15 minutes.

The draw also threw up opportunities for bragging rights with a number of husbands and wives playing against each other.

The final was contested by the winners of the 2 groups with Hazel Lee and Nick Toombs securing victory over Jane Raine and Mike Purser. This was followed by a delightful lunch provided by Val and Maria and a visit to the pub to discuss the "if onlys".

Entries are now open for the Ladies Doubles and Gentleman's Doubles to be held on Sunday 14th Sept in the morning and afternoon respectively.  Please contact Hazel Lee if you would like to take part.

Before that we have the ABC League finals and party on Friday August 1st. The cumulation of close to three months of matches, our Club’s favourite tournament reaches its climax with the mixed doubles final early on Friday evening. It’s a very close run thing as we go to press, so there should be plenty of edgy tennis to enjoy. Just like Wimbledon.

Following on we will have our popular party in and outside the pavilion, with music, chatter and pizzas from Ross. It’s BYO, so come along for a great value, great fun night out. We’d be particularly pleased to see new players who haven’t been along to a social event before. Members will by now have received an email, but there may still be a few places available last minute. Get in touch with any committee member.
