Christmas greeting to all, not just tennis club members but everyone in Tewin too. Your tennis club has had a fine and varied year, which we’ll cover in more detail in the January issue.
Meanwhile, just a reminder that we are a 24/7 tennis club. I write this having just returned from a very sociable Saturday morning’s men’s mix-in (Jackie, have I got my apostrophes right?) which started off cloudy and later descended into mizzle that deterred no-one at all. We rounded off the morning with coffee in the Plume of Feathers. Inevitably.
So please don’t discount playing right through the Christmas holidays when you find need for a bit of exercise. The on-line booking system means you can check court availability at the touch of a button.
November saw our annual Quiz Night in the pavilion, brilliantly organised by Hazel and Mark, with quizmasters Chris and Gerry dealing with the occasionally raucous competitors with aplomb. It was all great fun, helped along an especially good fish and chip supper half way through. One of the five teams won, but it’s hard to remember who they were…….
Instead, congratulations can go to David Rawlins and Neil Whiskin, champions of the delayed club men’s doubles completion. It was a closely fought.
Thanks go the the Tewin Parish Council for cutting back the trees around the courts. Many of us took part in the planting of shrubs and trees against the new wall at the back of the courts. The (somewhat optimistic) hope was that in time a screen would be established to mitigate low sun in players eyes. Well, almost a couple of decades later, it does help on occasions, but the growth was getting a bit wild so a trim was in order.
Finally, it is especially pleasing to report that we were able to run another successful junior tennis camp, this time over the October half term. Manifested by our chairman Mike Purser and coach Josh Cozens, the formula combines great tennis coaching with a large dose of fun. Keep an eye out for this again in 2026.
