Wimbledon starts as the Tewin Magazine publishes and as usual there will be some club members who have been lucky in the ballot to get tickets for the trip to SW19. Membership of the Tewin Tennis Club automatically gets you into the LTA ballot, so that’s another good reason to join the best value club in the county.
As I write this we are half way through the pre-Wimbledon tournament at Queens Club, closely following fantastic French Open. The finals of both women’s and men’s matches were utterly thrilling, good to see after, particularly in the men’s game, so many big names have recently retired. Let’s hope Wimbledon can live up to expectations. It usually does.
Onto our own tournaments, we kick off with the Mixed Doubles on the morning of Sunday July 13. Things start at 9.30, with partners drawn randomly, making the result really difficult to predict. Members will have received an email asking for their participation, so this is another call for players to step up. And do come along to watch; there may be cakes!
In the Datchworth League, Tewin 2 are doing well, currently second in their division. Tewin 1 is finding stiff opposition in Division 6A, and is currently in the relegation zone. We hope a determined team effort will do the trick.
Wednesday evening social tennis is now in full swing, capably organised by Maria. And there’s group coaching on Thursdays at 6pm. It’s just £8 for an hour with coach Josh, and we could do with a few more players to boost the numbers.
A last plug for the tennis summer camp for 8 years upwards. The dates are July 28, 29 and 30, with a cost of £20 for each three hour session, running from 09.30 to 12.30, no experience of tennis is necessary. Contact Josh directly on joshcozenstennis@gmail.com or 07305732882.
Finally, thanks to the volunteers who give an hour a month to keep the courts looking great. Anyone else willing to help please contact Mike Purser to join the rota.
