Coaching team

David Wright - Head coach

Tennis Background

I have been playing tennis since the age of 4 and have had a passion for the game ever since. Starting competitively at the age of 8, I’ve represented the county in every age group at junior level and currently do so for the men.  I was a top 10 ranked junior in the country and managed to get inside the top 300 in the world ITF.

I was a full-time tennis player at WIN tennis, Bisham Abbey and played/lived with the likes of Kyle Edmund and Laura Robson.

I try and use my playing experience as much as I can when coaching, as I believe it is a great asset for my pupils.

Coaching background

I coach a range of adult and children from all ages and abilities. I started coaching in 2011 at the age of 18. I have been a part of the LPDC "Compete Tennis" since then and currently 1 of 3 Directors. I work with a lot of top county and national tennis players at Redbridge, but I also wanted to challenge myself and develop a club programme. I am currently on the men's county selection team and captain of the 8u and 9u Essex Teams.

In October 2017, I Joined Theydon Bois and since then the club's juniors and adult programme has grown significantly.

I am a fully qualified level 4 LTA coach, which I gained 2 years ago, also I’m fully DBS checked with up to date safeguarding and first aid certificates.

Heidi Cornwall - Assistant coach

Tennis & Coaching background

I first started playing tennis aged 7 when my primary school put on weekly after school sessions. During secondary school I played occassionally in PE but when I left school I wanted to get back into playing and get active again to help with my recovery and rehabilition after my spinal operation in 2016, so I joined TBLTC in 2019.  Aged 17 I took my first steps into coaching as an assistant coach helping Dave with junior groups and camps.

4 years later I am a LTA level 2 Accredited Assistant coach. One of my favourite parts of coaching juniors is seeing their journey from learning the game to competing at any level. I'm also a qualified LTA competition organiser and enjoy running regular tournaments and fun team challenges to get players into playing matches in a fun relaxed enviroment. I'm also captain of the Theydon junior teams which has seen me introduce and guide our juniors through understanding the rules and tactics of competitive play, alongside making sure they have fun and enjoy playing with the wins being an added bonus. I have recently also completed my LTA line umpire course.

Heidi's role will be running/assisting group coaching, captaining the junior teams and organising competitions; she will also be available for private hits, so if you would like to book, contact David.
