Box Leagues 22

How The Box League Works

The Box Leagues will be starting in September 2022 giving adult members of Totteridge Tennis Club some exciting, friendly competition. Players will begin by being placed in a box of players of a similar ability. Each league will have a total of 6 players who will be required to play against all other competitors in their division, within an 8 week period.

At the end of the run the top 2 players will be promoted, bottom 2 will be demoted, and the rest of the players will remain in the same box. Final player positions in the box are determined by:

  1. Number of wins
  2. Number of sets won
  3. Number of games won
  4. Head-to-head

Match Scoring

  • To win a singles match in Fast 4 format, a player must win the best of three sets. Sets are determined on a fist-to-four-games basis, unlike the normal six games.
  • If it is 3 games all, a player must get to 5 games (ie win the set 5-3) or,
  • If it gets to 4 games all a tie-break is played to 7 points, 2 clear at 6-6.
  • If scores are level at the end of the second set, a first-to-ten-points match tie breaker is played, 2 points clear at 9-9.
  • Sudden Death Deuce - The receiver elects which service side he/she prefers when the score is deuce, there are no advantage points. This applies to both singles and doubles

Other Information

  • The box leagues will be displayed on the adult tennis noticeboard in the clubhouse with the play-by dates above.
  • WhatsApp groups will be set up with all players in each group.
  • Once a match has been completed, players must write up the result on the noticeboard.
  • Players are required to supply their own match balls and lights.

Incomplete Matches

It is important that players complete ALL their matches within their box within the allocated time frame. If a player does not complete all their matches, they will be removed from the leagues.

If a player is removed from the league, all complete results against that player will become void.

If you become injured during the league, it is important that you contact the Box League manager, Francesca, via email: info@tenniswithfrancesca.co.uk

Leaving & Joining The League

If you no longer wish to take part in the league, please let Francesca know as soon as possible. Player positions will be adjusted accordingly.

If you are not entered into the box leagues beginning in September, but would like to take part in the following run, please sign-up on the adult tennis board in the clubhouse under where the leagues are displayed. New joiners will be placed in an appropriate box according to their level where possible.
