GEORGE McDOWALL BENCH

GEORGE McDOWALL BENCH

A huge thank you to Mike Rayworth for reconstructing the George McDowall bench. Mike enjoyed a career as a civil engineer working on highways projects across the UK. When he retired to Appin, he realised a lifelong ambition by setting up Glen Creran Wood- a niche carpentry business producing bespoke handmade timber furniture. At the age of 84 Mike is now fully retired but still takes on the occasional commission. How lucky we are!

You may be interested to know that George McDowall originally made the bench seats himself and they have served the club well for almost 2 decades. George was a highly ranked tennis player in his day and was also very supportive & encouraging to the younger members, including his daughters who played for the club. I’m sure George would be delighted that the club & his bench continue to thrive!
