Aspiring young tennis players from around St Andrews gathered in the sunshine yesterday afternoon to take part in the first of six free tennis lessons by Mike Aitken, Director of Tennis.

The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) recently selected Mike as one of their Davis Cup Legacy coaches as part of the Tennis for Kids initiative. Following the AEGON GB Davis Cup Team’s historic Davis Cup by BNP Paribas win last November, the initiative aims to inspire 10,000 children aged 5-8 to pick up a racket and play tennis for the first time.

Ten children from primary schools in the local area signed up for the lessons and Mike will be offering follow on sessions during the summer holidays. Mike Aitken commented: “We are lucky to have many fantastic tennis clubs within NE Fife and all the children will be encouraged to join in with their local club programmes.”
