Get Ready For Spring - We Start Back 29th March

Countdown to Tennis – 27 days to go!

As you all probably know by now, tennis can re-start on 29th March – there is still some clarity needed over group sizes and we are awaiting instruction from the LTA regarding this – the activity table can be found at https://www.lta.org.uk/globalassets/news/2021/summary-grid---permitted-tennis-activity.pdf

Court bookings can be scheduled from this time but group sessions may be subject to change – we will just have to wait and see on that one.  Hand sanitiser must still be used and access to clubhouse remains restricted to toilet and floodlight use only.

As you all may have seen there has been a fair amount of activity at the club whilst everyone has been away – the clubhouse has been spruced up, hopefully the rainwater flooding issues have been sorted – in that regard we would ask, where possible, that members avoid walking on the new gravel in front of courts 3 and 4 to avoid compaction. We have installed LED floodlights and tweaked them to enhance evening play.  Dave Beck, his wife Jill, Simon and Harriet Hewitt have been working tirelessly at the club and a large amount of bramble and scrub has been cleared in the area following on from the car park, the aim is to facilitate more parking but a further recreational area may well be included, however in future, parking will be not permitted amongst the trees.

In another exciting development we have paired with Top Tennis Training who have given our membership free access to 50 different tennis lessons with material from David Ferrer and Tommy Robredo – which will give you something to practice until we get back on court.  I’ve seen the videos from practicing in hotel rooms in Australia so there is no excuse!  Seriously I do hope this becomes a valuable resource for members in the future.  There are further videos which contain paid content and should you wish to take these up the club will receive 50% of the fee paid.  Access to the free content can be found here https://www.top-tennis-training.com/tennis-blueprint-unlocked/

We are introducing a new ladies (if a man wants to come along I am sure nobody would mind) course on Tuesdays called Pair and Play delivered by Chris – it’s bookable here https://clubspark.lta.org.uk/VictoriaAvenueLawnTennisClub/Coaching  where you follow the link to Chris’s grassroots lessons, it is £7 per session and will focus on doubles play with a different theme each week – payable on a session to session basis rather than block booking.  Chris is also introducing a number of Youth Courses to the timetable.

We are also introducing new balls for club sessions, the Wilson Triniti ball you can find a review here https://www.lovetennisblog.com/wilson-triniti-tennis-balls-review/  no more ball cans floating around the court and none going into landfill, the balls also have more durability – the jury is out as to whether we adopt them for matches after you have tried them you could give us your opinion.

I think that’s enough for now – if anyone you know wants to join for the remaining month until May its £20 per adult.  Children £5

We have more initiatives in the pipeline and will contact you with news of these once finalised.

So everyone, welcome back, lets hope for some great weather.
