VP Tennis Newsletter - June 2025

We hope you are all enjoying your tennis in what has been a very dry start to the year - not many matches or sessions cancelled for a change!

Thanks to all those who attended the Gardening / Grounds day. It is always much appreciated. We have continued the theme of a general tidy up by getting in some contractors to freshen up the decoration in the clubhouse and foyer. And at the beginning of July will complete this process by replacing the carpets with a harder wearing vinyl flooring - thanks to all those who helped decide the colouring! If anyone fancies some "painting" on a sunny day over the next few months - the decking still needs treating. Let me know if you are able / prepared to help!

Thanks also to all those who attended our open day and charity tournament. Both were a great success - £300 was raised for the RD&E Hospital appeal and plenty of new members and regulars (both young and not so young) enjoyed the tennis! Thanks to all those who helped and thanks again to Ian Bransdon from By Design Homes for providing the pizza! If any new (or current) members have any further questions, concerns or suggestions - please don't hesitate to get in touch with a member of the committee.

Off the back of the Tournament success we plan to hold another one (open again to all members) on Sunday July 27th at 4pm.

This will be a fun event where everyone plays with several different partners and the game scores are added up.Adults and older children of all abilities welcome. Entry is £5.  Tennis balls will be provided and the bar will be open. Email Tim Cartwright  (boycarters@yahoo.co.uk) with any queries. Sign up to take part here:

There will also be information coming out also detailing some additional group coaching for children over the summer holidays. Hopefully more of you are keeping regularly updated via our new Facebook pages and WhatsApp groups (as well as the emails that get sent out via Clubspark).

Please let us know if you wish to join any groups or have ideas for new groups. We are hoping to add some opt-out clauses around photograph usage at the next renewal date (at the moment we will not publish a photograph on our website pages or Facebook without specific permission from the individuals involved). We obviously need to be very careful about this from a safeguarding perspective and to ensure all members have the right of privacy if requested - we are discussing the logistics and framework via committee meetings and will share more information about this later in the year.

Finally - we are planning a friendly hardball cricket match at the Coaver Club (County Hall, Exeter) the afternoon of Sunday 24th August. Please email boycarters@yahoo.co.uk if you would like to play! No particular experience or kit needed!

Let's hope the good weather continues and we have plenty of opportunity to play over the next few months! Please continue to be friendly and courteous to all those who visit the club - especially when sessions invariably get busier over the summer.

Best wishes, Tim Cartwright, Tennis Chair
