Club Rules

 Wallington Tennis Club Section Rules

As a friendly local club we wanted to have as few rules as possible. But of course there have to be some. Please do observe the following to maintain harmony within our club!

  • Correct shoes must be worn on the courts. Shoes with soles suitable for playing on the grass courts should be worn.
  • Please wear sports clothing when playing tennis. Whites are preferred. No jeans or football shirts are allowed.
  • Guest maybe invited inline with out guest policy. Adults @ £5.00 per visitor per session. Juniors @ £2.00 per visit per session. Guests may play on the grass courts but members must be given priority.
  • No glass or glass bottles on the courts. All rubbish must be put in the bins.
  • During club sessions if more people want to play than there are courts available, please finish your set then let others either join in or sit out while they play a set. Fairness to all is paramount. The rule at present for club sessions is 5 games at a time, but agreement between those present can extend this to a set.
  • Be respectful. No swearing, rude or offensive language. Any issues between players should be dealt with off court and out of ear shot of other members
  • When crossing to the far side of the grass courts priority needs to be given to the players on the first court. Please wait for them to agree for you to cross
  • No children without a parent or responsible adult (playing or non playing) present. Our insurance does not cover a child under 12 if an adult is not present at all times. Please note that if a child under 12 is left unattended and causes damage to the courts or local resident’s property, the parent/s will be expected to cover the cost of the damage incurred.
  • Children under 12 years old are not allowed to join in at club sessions unless by special invitation from the committee
  • Please be aware that playing on the hard courts when wet or slippery is at your own risk. Our insurance will not cover you if you have an accident when the courts are considered unsuitable for play.
  • Play can start on the grass courts from 11am and please do not play with the courts are wet.
  • If your ball/s goes into the grass courts during closure months, please flag with the grass court grounds man/ committee and wait for them to be returned to you.
  • All gates must be closed at all times. Please double check before you leave that all the padlocks are on and secure. Damage to courts from vandals has to be paid for from the club funds and this restricts our expenditure on needed equipment.
  • The clubhouse rule is that no sports equipment can be brought into the clubhouse. Bags can be left in the lobby or patio area while you come in for that well-earned drink. All bags on the grass courts are to be placed alongside the perimeter fence and not around the table and chair area where people are sitting
  • There is no smoking/vaping on any of the courts. Please do not smoke/ vape at the entrance of the clubhouse. The patio area has ashtrays and chairs.
  • Coaching must not take place on the grass courts (unless prior agreement is given by the committee).

Tennis etiquette!

  • Wait for a suitable break in play before collecting a ball from an adjacent court.
  • Wait for a convenient break in play before going on to court.
  • Do not walk behind players while play is in progress, please wait for an appropriate break.
