Warwickshire Ladies O65s vs Cambridgeshire

I am thrilled to report that we have just won our second match of the season with a winning draw against Cambridgeshire. I don’t think I can remember reporting two wins in one season before!

Fortunately we were able to play outside at Kenilworth giving us a significant home advantage with the courts being much more receptive to spin and slice than indoor courts.

Margaret Simcox and Caroline Rhodes had a nail-biting tussle against Jenny Chin and Yasmin Mughal, winning 7-6, 7-6. We thought we had let it slip after being 4-1 up in the second set but knuckled down to take a second tie break. Meanwhile Chris Clewer and Julia Shearing, playing Sue Mitchell and Nicky Kerr, stormed back after losing the first set 4-6 to take the second 6-1, but lost the championship tie-break. That second set proved crucial as both reverse matches were decided in two sets. Margaret and Caroline won 6-1, 6-3 and Chris and Julia lost 2-6, 2-6.

Well done team. A fantastic result. Special thanks to Julia for stepping in to replace an injured Fiona.

Onwards and upwards!
