Playoff 5/6

Vs Avon 5- 1

First match up is against Sussex on the Friday morning: William Harvey plays first against a very resilient and consistent baseliner. William loses the first set 4-2 after a couple of sudden deuces games at 2-2. Second set comes out fighting and playing his tennis and wins a tight second set on the tiebreak 8-6! Into s champ tiebreak third…..he is battling hard and its so close but the Sussex player was just too consistent and takes it 10-6.

Warwickshire 1-0 down.

Dylan Ram comes on court and plays really well to dominate his opponent and takes the first at 4-2. Second set is close; the Sussex player is playing well and mixing the tempos up but Dylan comes through on a tiebreak 7-5 to draw us level!

Seb is on indoors in the bubble and he is taking on a really solid baseliner and starts a little slow and loses the first set 4-1. Seb turns it around and wins the second set with some great shot making and true grit as well 4-1. CTB it is: Seb shows his class and wins it 10-5 to take Warwickshire 2-1 up after the 3 singles.

Veer takes on Harrison; who he narrowly lost to in the final of Babolat Cup last weekend: this is going to be close….

Both players are playing some fantastic rallies and Veer obviously wanting revenge from last weeks defeat dominates the big points to win the first set 4-0. Harrison gathers himself and starts to up his level and takes the second set 4-2. CTB again… after some incredible points: Veer loses 11-9.

2-2 after the singles… all to play for in the doubles!

Doubles parings:

Veer & Seb

Dylan & Rehan

Both go onto together and both Warwickshire pairs lose the first sets. Veer and Seb turn it around to win the second set but unfortunately Dylan and Rehan lost on a second set tiebreak. 3-2 Sussex. CTB in the first doubles match…. Veer and Seb play some fantastic and brave doubles to take the match 10-6 and we are into a shootout….!!!

We decide to go with Veer & Dylan in the shootout: They fought hard but we lost 11-9 in the shootout.

Really tough and long day to waiting around as its had rained all afternoon so no play on the outdoors courts, the boys are gutted but we know we still have two more matches tomorrow to play.

Player of the day: Seb Wood

Saturday

A quick run, breakfast and warm up the boys are really up for the challenge of Middlesex…(who are the highest ranked team here)

After an hour and half delay due to the courts being so wet…. We go with the same singles players in order as Friday and so William and Dylan are both on first: William outdoors and Dylan indoors.

Will loses the first set on a tiebreak against a good baseliner and server. Dylan is playing really well but the Middlesex boy is just too strong and takes the first set 4-2. Both Will and Dylan keep fighting but both Middlesex opponents were just too strong, and they both lose 4-1, so Warwickshire 2-0 down.

Seb and Veer both go on together and again both playing fantastic tennis and Veer dominates the first set and wins 4-1. Seb just narrowly loses on a tiebreak 7-5. Both Middlesex boys then take the second sets 4-2 so Warwickshire 3-0 down and into a CTB with Veer: Veer plays well and starts to dominate his opponent again and wins 10-8. Warwickshire 3-1 down and so we are all to play for in the doubles.

Doubles pairings:

Veer & Will

Seb & Rehan

Veer and Will start really well and win the first set on a tiebreak 7-4. Middlesex pair then take the second set 4-2. CTB again: we eventually lose 10-8: the boys shows great fight and the tennis was fantastic to watch.

Seb & Rehan are indoors and struggle with the power of their opponents and lose 4-1. 4-1. The Warwickshire boys showed heart and fought for every point.

Middlesex 5-1 win.

Our final group match was v Cheshire.

Same singles players as before in previous matches, so Will and Dylan go on and play solid tennis and win both matches: Dylan in straight sets and William fought back from a set and break down to take it to a CTB: he wins that 10-5 after being 4-1 in that tiebreak too.

Warwickshire 2-0.

Seb and Veer take to the court. Seb steamrollers his opponent 4-0, 4-2. Warwickshire 3-0.

Veer loses a tight first set and is in a real battle in the second being 3-1 down, brings the score back to 3-3 and into a second set tiebreak: unfortunately, he loses that tiebreak 7-5. Warwickshire 3-1 lead.

Player of the day: Seb Wood

Sunday

Doubles v Cheshire:

Veer & Will – they come through with a 2 sets victory after a tight first set. Warwickshire 4-1.

Dylan & Seb: playing great doubles and win the 1st set 4-0 and are 3-0 up and lose a little concentration; 3-1, quickly turns into 3-3: second set tiebreak…. We lose that 7-4 into a CTB: we couldn’t gain control and then lose 10-6: tough one to take for the boys but still the team won 4-2 overall.

Play off 5th/6th v Avon:

Singles player are the same again for this match: Will and Dylan both on together and both playing so well and win comfortably in straight sets. Warwickshire quickly 2-0 up.

Seb and Veer take to the court: Seb plays so well and wins comfortably too in straight sets. Warwickshire 3-0.

Veer battles hard against a tricky player but wins the first set on a tiebreak 7-5. Second set he loses 4-2…. Into another CTB for Veer… he loses that 10-6 after both players playing great tennis. Warwickshire 3-1 after the singles.

Doubles:

Dylan & Seb – the boys put the last match behind them and play great tennis to win in straight sets. Warwickshire 4-1.

Veer & Will – lose the first set 4-2. Win the second set 4-3 on a tiebreak….into the CTB we go: turn it around and win 10-4. Warwickshire 5-1 and finish 5th.

Player of the day: William Harvey

Supporter of the weekend: Rehan Redza

The boys were great all weekend long and worked so hard and played so well in each match. All the parents were fantastic showing their support and there is a great team spirit amongst the boys. Sam Atcheson came to support both on the Saturday and Sunday too which is so good to see.

Well done boys on finishing 5th nationally.
