Meet the Committee 2021!

We appreciate not everyone was able to make it along to our AGM towards the end of last year where we confirmed what the WELTC committee will look like in 2021.

Here, why don't we get properly acquainted with all the wonderful folk who help run the day-to-day dealings of the club? Scroll down and hear from each in their own words!

You will also find this information under out Committee tab on our website. This year we are trying something different in that the role of the President is rotated monthly between the Directors.

Treasurer, Membership Secretary and Director:  Linda Burton

"I am Linda and have  been a member of WELTC for over 12 years. Initially joined the committee at the end of 2019 and took over Treasurer duties in Autumn 2020 and was confirmed as a Director of the club at the AGM in November. I have also been helping with memberships this year and may well be doing more regarding memberships next year.

Have always enjoyed tennis and you will regularly see me at Ladies Social nights on Wednesday, the ‘Afternoon Ladies’ sessions Tues, Thurs & Fri and Cardio Tennis on Saturday mornings. Outside tennis I love looking after my three grandchildren (currently aged 14, 10 and 4 ) and in any other free time enjoy walking and cycling.  Dancing and folk music have also been a big part of my life."

Tennis Development Officer: Fabian Haut

"I am Fabian. I have been a member at WELTC for 15 years, playing in the various teams over the years. I am semi retired consultant psychiatrist, although I seem to work somehow as much as I did before…

In my spare time I try to play some tennis, enjoy cooking, baking and reading."

Communications Secretary: Jenni Kaski

"I joined WELTC in April 2019 and started with the Committee at the end of the same year as the Membership Secretary - just testament to what an impression the club made! From 2021 I have switched my focus over to managing the website and communications. You will catch me on the courts co-facilitating the Social Club Night on Tuesdays and Ladies’ Night on Wednesdays. Occasionally I'll make an appearance at cardio and adult coaching if I’m feeling particularly ambitious... I also play for the Ladies’ Team (with varied success but with great enthusiasm)!

Outside of tennis I love trying out new recipes and drinking way too much coffee while getting lost in a good book."

Grounds and Maintenance Secretary and Directors: Colin and Tara Birtwistle

"Supported the club for several years as parents, committee members and now directors. Our children have been active members of the junior teams since young and have also done their coaching qualifications with the help and support of the club. We were keen to offer our time to help with ensuring the club was able to improve its facilities for everyone to enjoy as the club has been a huge part of our children’s life.

Not the best players but enjoy fun games and usually appear at the club finals and any club tournaments. Love cardio tennis, so probably find one or both of us there on a Saturday morning. Outside of tennis we love walking/ running, going on adventures in our campervan and anything which involves being outside.

We coordinate the newly formed maintenance team and are always looking for any support keeping the courts safe and enjoyable for all!"

Welfare Officer: Linda Dubiel

"I am Linda Dubiel, the newly appointed welfare officer. Part of my role is to make sure that the club is a safe and inclusive venue for everyone. The wellbeing of children and adults is the club’s priority at all times, so don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any concerns.

I have been a member of the club since 2012 and usually play in the ladies' team and the mixed doubles league. My sons are playing tennis at the club as juniors and I enjoy a good hit with them. I regularly practice yoga and pilates to stay balanced. Also my husband and I wonder through the beautiful Scottish countryside lots and are keen birders and mushroom pickers. Not had a bad one yet."

Social Secretary: Ricky Harrison

"I have been a member at West End Tennis club for 7 years and can regularly be found on the court daily. I also help to organise day events and BBQs throughout the year so feel free to approach me to get involved!"

Secretary and Director: Ian Manson

"I am the director and secretary of the tennis club. I have been on the committee for over twenty years which means I been part of three club renovation projects. I do not get down to the club as often as I should but my wife and daughter are trying to persuade me to play more often, so I should  be down more next year.

My other interests include transport history and I am part owner of four vintage buses including a red London bus and I drive steam engines."

Committee Member and Director: Amanda Barclay

"Past president 2015 to 2020 and previously Membership secretary for 8 years

Enjoy playing tennis, being part of WELTC and seeing how club has continued to develop."

Head Coach: Jack Ganley

"I am Club Coach so my job is to engage as many as people as I can in tennis at West End and create a fun and exciting environment for people to begin or continue to develop their journey. I have been at the club for 2 years and have built the club programme around inclusivity and tennis enjoyment. In addition to my coaching at the club, I am Tayside District Competition Coordinator which encompasses getting local players in competitive play. Tennis is a real passion for myself and you will find me most days on the court either coaching or playing!

Outside of coaching I love to get out and be active. I find any outdoor activity and sport fascinating and just enjoy being active. My partner and I enjoy participating in running events and are currently attempting to bag Munros… just 272 left to conquer. As an interesting side note I have a MChem degree in Chemistry with Forensic Science and spent a year of my life studying the decomposition of animal remains… I now lead a much more glamourous existence on the tennis court!"

Fundraising Convener: Hannah Lord

"Joined club about 8 years ago, played in ladies' team for most of them, was Membership Secretary for 4 years, and Fund Raising Convenor now for 2 years, and now also the Chair as part of the Rotation. No longer play in teams as a busy Mother and Hospital Consultant with no spare time in the evenings unfortunately.

Other interests are currently none, but used to enjoy hillwalking, skiing and swimming."
