WHALLEY TENNIS    CLUB

4.           Updating Club Constitution and 2026 Committee Formation

As the club has evolved and grown over the years the committee has recommended, we update our constitution. Copies of the proposed constitution will be available at the AGM. One of the tasks of the new committee is to finalise the wording but the AGM can vote to affirm that we need the new constitution.

One thing the new constitution proposes is that we reconfigure our committee into a structure like the one recommended by the LTA. There will be fewer committee posts, and we will try to define roles more closely. We also need to ensure all committee members are supported and given training as needed.

The following committee positions will be available. If you can volunteer, please make yourself known at the meeting. If more than one person volunteers there will be a vote.

Chair:

Secretary:

Membership Secretary:

Treasurer:

Welfare Officer:

Website Manager

Club House Manager/ Co-Ordinator

Court Manager/ Co-Ordinator

Grounds Manager/ Co-Ordinator

Ladies, Men’s and Mixed Team Manager and East Lancs League Main Contact.

(Two Posts)

Junior Co-Ordinator:

12 Members, one of which should take up the additional role of Vice Chair.

The committee should feel free to co-opt an additional member if the need arises.

It is not expected that the Club House, Court and Grounds Managers do all or even most the work themselves but should be able to recruit and organise other volunteers to cover tasks as they arise.

Details of generalized role descriptions can be found on the LTA Website

https://www.lta.org.uk/roles-and-venues/venues/resource-library/

and a handout produced by the club which covers the tasks that need to be done to keep the club running (also on the website).

We are becoming more dependent on the website. It will be useful if most committee members can learn to edit the website so we can communicate effectively with members.
