4. Chair’s Report

With covid becoming a distant memory things went back to what passes for normal at Whalley Tennis Club in 2022.

I will briefly run through a few highlights. The teams all did well, special mention must go to the B team who won the knockout trophy for divisions two and three of the East Lancs open league. For those who don't know the format it involves 2 singles matches and a doubles. We won the final with the combination of youthful skill in the singles and mature class in the doubles. The ladies C team were promoted into Division One of the ladies leagues. The team has progressed from being formed in 2019 to the top division in 2023 ladies, a great achievement. The ladies A and B team came second and third in the top division well, so well done ladies.

Moving on to other competitive events the lockdown cup was a major highlight with an ever-growing entry list and a good crowd at the final. Someone needs to challenge Dom Brown this year as a find performance saw him win the final against Andrew Moore giving him the chance of a hat trick of wins if he manages it this year. The main autumn competition was the Neil Weatherburn cup which was won by Natalie with many entries from regular club night stars. Club night has been as great as ever. Many thanks to Bill for his all his efforts providing that little bit of extra something that keeps people coming back even when the courts are underwater or covered in snow. Other events included the annual cricket match, thanks to Rory for organizing, and an away day on the grass at Gargrave. Hopefully we can more manage more friendly matches this year.

Many thanks to all club members especially for the committee for making 2022 a great year, hopefully to be repeated in 2023.
