Courts and facilities

In 2017 we replaced our shale courts with two new hard courts, and for the first time we were able to install state-of-the-art LED floodlights.  This means members can now play until 9.45pm and we can have an all-year-round Wednesday evening club night as well as being able to host winter floodlight league matches.  At the end of 2019 we resurfaced two of our other hard courts. Our clay shale court will, this year, be converted to a hard court.

Our clubhouse has its own charm  and with our ongoing refurbishment programme we now have a new kitchen which is great for the afternoon teas which accompany our popular Saturday club sessions and for our social functions. We also have table tennis and darts. During the pandemic we used the closure of our clubhouse to carry out further renovation work.

Social Tennis

We have five club sessions a week

SATURDAYS | 1pm-6pm

This is a well attended session for members and guests to mix in, playing eight-game sets of tennis, with a tea provided at 3.30pm during the summer months.

WEDNESDAYS | 6.30pm-9.45pm

This is a floodlit session in winter. In Summer it is a very popular and enjoyable way to spend an evening.

AMERICAN TOURNAMENT Monthly, Sundays, spring and summer only | 1pm-5pm

This is a handicap event for players of all abilities and usually takes place on the second Sunday of every month from April/May to October.

At other times members usually arrange games via one of our Wood Vale Whatsapp groups.

MONDAYS, WEDNESDAYS & FRIDAYS | 11.00am-1pm

This is mainly attended by older members, but everyone is welcome.

Club Structure

The club is run entirely by its members and on a voluntary basis. Apart from a part-time groundsman and cleaner, we look after the place ourselves – courts, the clubhouse and the grounds. We have several volunteers who do a variety of tasks, including; buying tennis balls, recycling used balls, emptying bins, providing Saturday teas, DIY in and around the club, IT and more.

The club is managed by a General Committee whose task it is to hold the place together, to manage our finances, to adhere to LTA guidelines and advice, to communicate regularly and clearly with our membership and to ensure that the tennis environment is the best it can be.
