Golf Day 2016

GOLF DAY REPORT

Once again all the members who participated in our annual Golf Day on 4th September had a great time. This year it was held at Bransford Golf club.  Over the last two years we have played at Gaudet Luce Golf club in Droitwich.

20 members (this includes two guests – Phil Wood, and Dave Miller) took part. I have learnt that some members were busy going to the golf range to help them get to grips with golf and understand what the game is all about and why people spend hours trying to get a small white ball into a slightly larger hole 18 times in a row in as few shots as possible!

Richard Jenkins, professional at Bransford, ordered lovely weather for the day. Over breakfast handicaps were negotiated and once these were settled we made our way to the first tee.

The golf course was in great condition, very challenging and not for the faint hearted!  The first four ball went off at 11.30am and last at 12.15pm.  It was wonderful to see an array of antique golf clubs which were carried by Simon Laws and John Wormington. The first tee saw 3 of us drive (well dribble) straight into the lake!

What was clear throughout the round was that the day was going to be very long! It was clear that some members were getting their pounds worth even though they had no chance of scoring any points on the hole. Adrian Preedy, for reasons unknown, hired a buggy to take him round.  It was good to see him explore the wild life whilst he was playing golf and enjoying the buggy ride. Some of the colourful language that emerged from the fairways after the shots were made matched the language heard at football grounds. The course proved very tough for some of us never the less everyone battled on and completed 18 holes.

A few beers were had at the club house and scores were counted up. The winner this year was Cameron Hamilton Patel who scored 40 points with a handicap of 14! He certainly won’t be playing off 14 next year. Every one enjoyed the golf and most of us then went for a well earned curry in town.

Hope we have more joining us next year and, Josh, the bad news for you is that we may return to the same place next year. Next Golf day is likely to be in April 2017. Watch this space and thank you to all who took part.
