This summer our Coach Andrew Bird organised some further LTA Junior Matchplay events at the club. We are delighted to report that these were well supported by our club juniors with some great successes in different age groups.

The LTA encourage clubs to stage these Matchplay events as "entry level" competitions for junior players - a fun introduction to competition. As many clubs only have a few juniors in each age group, the LTA encourage clubs to pool their resources and stage these events as "open" competitions that can then be publicised through the LTA's competion search engine and database system.  By promoting these events to a wider geographical audience this can make each event viable in the sense that each player can have a few short matches against players of a similar ability level. All the events use a "Round Robin" small group format with the shorter Fast4 scoring system.

At Worplesdon we staged an event for the  under 12 age group on the 16th August. This event was won by Worplesdon junior Oliver Wynn.  We also staged an event for the under 16 age group on 30th August.  This event was attended by players from a far afield as Bognor, Oxford, Cranleigh and Walton-on-Thames! Our Worplesdon junior champion Benjamin Williams finished in 3rd place. Worplesdon's Huw Pitman finished in 4th place and his friend Alexander Sutcliffe made a promising return from a serious injury by securing a 6th place finish.

All the players enjoyed the experience of playing some friendly but  competitive matches and their results will now help them to improve their World Tennis Number (the new LTA rating system).
