A New Fresh Look at Worplesdon Tennis Club

We are delighted to have recently signed an agreement with the Memorial Hall Trustees to take control of Courts 1 and 2 so we now have four courts available from 7.00 am – 10.00 pm every day and with free floodlighting when required.   Club sessions seem now to be extremely well attended and one may wonder if this is partly due to the new clubhouse coffee percolator gifted by Stephen Marriott.   Thank you Stephen.

Since our last report, we have also seen several improvements to the Courts and Clubhouse.  We started by replacing the worn court numbers followed by the coat hooks on all courts and their mounting boards were painted green to match our existing club sign mounted on the exterior of the clubhouse.   By popular request, benches were also purchased for each court and these are already proving to be a valuable addition to our equipment.

The latest acquisition, a large club sign, was installed yesterday and it hangs proudly on the fence beside Court 2, clearly visible to all.  It is coloured predominantly green and blends in nicely with the other new items and the surrounding grass(which may be the reason why many members failed to notice it at this morning’s club session!).

Planning for our ‘Wimbledon at Worplesdon’ Day is progressing well and advertising notices are popping up in many places so we hope we will attract a large number of visitors.
