2017 saw another very successful Closed Club Championships take place. With entries higher in most events that in recent years the rounds were keenly contested throughout September.
Following these our finalists lined up to battle it out on court on Sunday 1st October. There were some great matches and a good club spirit in the tennis centre as usual during our finals day. The end of the day saw a new round of very worthy champions who were all presented with their prizes following our Club Champs Afternoon Tea.
Our 2017 Club Champions and prize winners are as follows:
Bernard Pendle Club Member of the Year - Bob Sonderman, A long term club member Bob sets an example to us all. He puts himself forward for all the league matches where he is happy to play in any team and also step in at late notice. He is a regular attender and supporter of social tennis evenings and has rarely missed a Club Championships. And whatever the tennis occasions he is always a delight to partner.
Stonier Hobbs Volunteer of the Year - James Brocksopp, James is a longstanding (and regularly attending!) committee member. For several years he has done the tricky job of organising the Late Summer Mixed teams in addition to being a Summer League team captain. Off the court his views are always thoughtful and well measured and for this reason members will often seek his advice.

Mixed Vets Doubles - Champions - Sarah Dawe & Oli Leatham, runners-up - Janie Bullus & Andy Jeffery (6-4, 7-5)
