Welcome to Aston Ingham Tennis Club

About Us

Awarded Club Mark status by the LTA in 2011

A friendly tennis club, situated on the edge of the village of Aston Ingham, straddling the Gloucestershire, Herefordshire border between the towns of Ross On Wye and Newent. The club has been built up by funding and efforts of its members over the last 40 years.

The club has two floodlit courts, a clubhouse with toilets, heating and a small kitchen. The courts are in excellent condition, repainted and newly fenced in 2022.

We are always pleased to welcome visitors and potential new members. Our members typically come from the villages of Aston Ingham, Gorsley, Linton, Lea, Kilcot, Cliffords Mesne and the towns of Newent and Ross-on-Wye, but some live further away.

The Club came into existence through the efforts of a few people in the Aston Ingham area to gather together for social tennis on a private court during the late 1970's. Numbers and interest grew rapidly and in the early 1980's the Club was able to construct its first court in Stockings Field, Kilcot, following in the footsteps of the local Cricket Club who had developed the field for cricket use.

Today the Club is flourishing, with two fine courts and a Clubhouse, a membership of around 60/65 Adults, Families and Juniors.

We have an excellent club coach - and details of club coaching opportunities can be found under the coaching tab above.

We are affiliated to the LTA and were awarded Clubmark Status in 2011. During the past few summer seasons the Club has entered both Mens and Ladies Teams in the Gloucestershire LTA Leagues. In addition, during the winter the Club enters two mixed teams in the Gloucestershire LTA Mixed Doubles League.

In addition to League Tennis, however, there is a strong emphasis in the Club on social tennis, competitions within the Club, and friendly matches with other clubs. Each year we have a Mixed Doubles Tournament (the Morton Shield), where partners are picked at random; a Singles Championship (Men and Ladies), a Men's Doubles and Ladies Doubles Championship and a Mixed Doubles Championship. During the summer season the Club is keen to promote the social aspect of playing tennis and Members are encouraged to attend 'Club Sessions' on Saturday afternoons from 2.0 p.m. and Wednesday evenings from 5.0 p.m. where players of all abilities can 'mix-in' and enjoy some friendly tennis.

Inevitably, to ensure the smooth running of the Club, we have rules and procedures covering such issues as health and safety, accident reporting, visitor procedures, playing priorities, etc. all of which are covered in detail in the Members' Section of this website (available only to Club Members). In addition, we have policies relating to Diversity & Inclusion and Safeguarding & Whistleblowing. Click on any of these to view them.
